Abstract
The paper deals with the written sources used by Valvasor in preparing the description and explanation of karst phenomena from his work Die Ehre dess Herzogthums Crain (1689). A list of about a hundred sources on the karst, from ancient to contemporary, is presented. These writings are roughly analyzed and compared to the leading literature on karst of that time. A revised selection of Valvasor’s references to karst is appendixed.
